Last summer vacation, I had an opportunity to be in
dad's hobby workshop and decided to have a look at my pending projects. (I
am no longer a science student but now in School
of Fashion Technology for my BS Degree) I realized that I had a
lot of parts in boxes that I ordered and must be utilized!! I decided
to complete this FM Radio project as all that was to be done was to
design a board.
FM Radio project detailed here is based on SONY 1619
chip. This is single chip radio means, everything from Antenna to
Speaker is done by Sony IC, specially designed for AM/FM
Radios.
Although, Sony 1619 has capability of receiving
AM signals too, I have disabled that facility and have made this an FM
ONLY radio.
Radio is designed as a School Project where
everything that is used is on front side of the board.
There are three coils that we need to wind and a
small alignment procedure that will help complete this radio with loud
and clear FM Radio Signals!!
Radio is designed on a double sided PTH Board and works on USB power. There is an option to add 6V battery (4xAA or
AAA) but that is not part of the kit. USB power is selected in a view
that most of us have a PC and one USB port is available for this
radio.
A second board is provided to accommodate a 3inch
speaker and required spacers are supplied with kits
Since Sony 1619 is a very compact chip with very
close pins to solder, we will offer an option to get kits with
pre-soldered chip if you like that way. (at no extra cost) FM
Radio kits will be available for school teachers free of charge.
Please contact me if you like one for your school.
